What actually gets serviced on an electric car?
Posted 2026-11-02 by Autotech Cheshire
An electric car has far fewer moving parts than a petrol or diesel car, but it is not maintenance-free.
What an EV service typically covers
- Brake fluid condition, and brake discs and pads (which can corrode because regenerative braking means they are used less)
- Coolant for the battery and power electronics, where fitted
- Cabin pollen filter
- Tyre condition and wear, which can be quicker on heavy EVs
- Suspension, steering and general safety checks
- A diagnostic scan and a software and battery health check where supported
Why it is still worth doing
Regular servicing finds problems early, keeps your service history up to date and supports resale value.
