BLOCK EXEMPTION
In October 2002, the latest EC Block Exemption Regulation was introduced to allow motorists flexibility when selecting where they could legally get their car serviced and repaired. Previously, all motorists were required to have their vehicle fixed by main dealer garages only. This was so as not to risk invalidating the vehicle’s manufacturer’s warranty. The regulation is part of the European Union’s competition law practices and exists to prevent abuse of dominant market positions.
Regulations
The latest regulations were put in place to increase choice – you cannot be obliged, as a condition of warranty for example, to have your car serviced by a franchised dealer. The work is now allowed to be carried out by an independent garage, as long as the garage uses the correct manufacturer’s guidelines and OEM (original materials) or approved parts. At The Autotech Cheshire, MOT & Service Centre all our work sticks closely to these conditions. Our work is carried out to the highest of standards and will not affect your manufacturer’s warranty. Our services are no different to those of a main dealer, other than that we can offered greatly reduced rates.
